Drop Kiwi Farms
Journos
Cloudflare's problems with Kiwi Farms isn't a new thing - an analysis conducted earlier this year found the platform has an outsized role in keeping misinformation and hate sites online. My latest for @TIME https://t.co/IWZTk30K1g
— Chris Stokel-Walker (@stokel) August 26, 2022
Cloudflare is facing mounting protests online calling for it to cease support for Kiwi Farms, a forum for hate campaigns that's forced a well-known transgender Twitch streamer into hiding https://t.co/crJXnM8OXz

After days of silence, Cloudflare suggested it wouldn’t cede to pressure to terminate internet services for controversial discussion forum Kiwi Farms https://t.co/32b2ueKVb8

I've been covering bad parts of the internet for long time now.
— Ben Collins (@oneunderscore__) September 2, 2022
For years, there was one site extremist researchers warned me not to cover because publicizing it would be dangerous.
But it's time people know KiwiFarms—and how they're chasing political enemies around the world.
Here's my story with @kattenbarge on KiwiFarms and how political terror will look going into 2024.
— Ben Collins (@oneunderscore__) September 2, 2022
They are weaponizing your data to terrorize political dissidents — and they're broadening what they view to be an enemy every day.
I hope you read it.https://t.co/6TGJxWr7pu
We just blocked Kiwifarms. The threats on the site escalated enough in the last 48 hours that, in spite of proactively working with law enforcement, it became enough of an imminent emergency we could no longer wait for them to act. Details of our decision: https://t.co/xNnSXn65R6

Cloudflare has just dropped #Kiwifarms. Story coming.

SCOOP: Under pressure, security firm Cloudflare has dropped KiwiFarms. By @josephmenn and me https://t.co/MwqMvHvRBP #DropKiwiFarms
— Taylor Lorenz (@TaylorLorenz) September 3, 2022
Escalating threats and the potential risk for human life has compelled Cloudflare to block Kiwifarms from being accessed through our infrastructure. Complete details can be found in our latest blog post. https://t.co/AccDkiw0DF
— Cloudflare (@Cloudflare) September 3, 2022
Update: Cloudflare, the hosting provider for KiwiFarms, has dropped them from accessing their services.
— Ben Collins (@oneunderscore__) September 3, 2022
This will make it extremely hard for them to stay online.
Cloudflare had put out a statement standing by hosting the site earlier this week.https://t.co/87A7E2aVTi
What does KiwiFarms losing their hosting mean for their online gang’s future?
— Ben Collins (@oneunderscore__) September 3, 2022
For one, much of its userbase has predicted this in the last week, and has moved to Telegram. They’ll keep going.
But their massive archive of doxxes and targets will be a lot less easy to find.
Updating scoop with @TaylorLorenz on #Cloudflare dropping #Kiwifarms with more comments from Matthew Prince plus @alexstamos @daphnehk @xychelsea. Thanks for reading.
— Joseph Menn (@josephmenn) September 4, 2022
Cloudflare did not drop Kiwi Farms in response to any one news article. Media ppl should note that @keffals led this campaign, her powerful audience generated #DropKiwifarms coverage on dozens of websites over the past month including Insider, CBS, Vice, Bloomberg, and more.
— Taylor Lorenz (@TaylorLorenz) September 4, 2022
Content creators have made TikToks/IG posts about this, Twitch streamers covered it at length for weeks, and activists/non profits have worked behind the scenes to exert pressure on Cloudflare. Even Marjorie Taylor Greene (weirdly) issued support for killing the site
— Taylor Lorenz (@TaylorLorenz) September 4, 2022
Obv. journalism plays a major role in media attn on stories like this. Just noting that it wasn’t journalists who started this accountability campaign, it was @keffals, who was brave enough to talk publicly every day abt her experiences and Kiwi Farms harm to the trans community
— Taylor Lorenz (@TaylorLorenz) September 4, 2022
.@kattenbarge and @oneunderscore__ also did one of the best reports on everything that happened. Their piece really get into why this all matters and what it says about the future of political organizing. It’s a must read https://t.co/K5w40ojffb

Defenders of Kiwi Farms say it should stay online to protect speech. What about the people Kiwi Farms’ trolls have silenced? https://t.co/aTVshq0e8h

What is Kiwi Farms, the forum a streamer blames for harassment that prompted her to leave Canada? https://t.co/R5yRKmeAL8 pic.twitter.com/TRZFbnbEnm
— CBC London (@CBCLondon) September 5, 2022
Seeing who covered the @keffals Kiwi Farms story and who didn’t is very telling about what institutions have actually invested in robust online culture coverage
— Taylor Lorenz (@TaylorLorenz) September 6, 2022
This is incredible. Huge w https://t.co/FSokA6ifEl
— Taylor Lorenz (@TaylorLorenz) September 6, 2022
The Kiwi Farms stuff still doesn’t feel real. As someone who was targeted by the community for years I can’t believe what @keffals and everyone who worked toward this for so long has accomplished. Such an incredible feat and reminder of the power of collective action.
